LOGLINE:

Upon turning fifty years old, Karyna, a transgender immigrant, is determined to fulfill her lifelong dream of celebrating her Quinceañera.

SYNOPSIS:

My Queerceañera is a character-driven documentary that dives into Karyna Jaramillo’s life, a Mexican-American transgender woman living in Arizona, and her determination to fulfill her teenage dream of celebrating her Quinceañera when she turns fifty years old. Although her family and society do not fully accept her, she breaks traditions to celebrate her Quinceañera. This documentary dives into Karyna’s life as a construction worker, coming to terms with her identity, her battle with alcohol addiction, and her family challenges at home. Karyna’s story will reveal her resilience to thrive against adversities that illustrate her fight for equity, diversity, and inclusion.  .
